Gracey 211-212XSI – Sustainability overview

Sustainability in every detail

As part of Planmeca Group’s sustainability initiative, LM-Dental™ has conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for one of its most used periodontal instruments: the Gracey 211-212XSI. The study followed ISO 14040 and 14044 standards and was verified by an independent third party. It covered the entire life cycle—from raw materials to end-of-life—and identified key environmental hotspots.

Life Cycle Assessment provides a comprehensive view of environmental impacts across all stages: raw material extraction, manufacturing, distribution, use, and disposal. The findings guide continuous improvement in product design and sustainability practices.

Usage & durability

Gracey 211-212XSI curettes are engineered for repeated cleaning and sterilization, supporting sustainable clinical practices. Usage estimates vary:

  • LM-Dental™ internal estimate: 100–200 uses before disposal
  • Dental assistant’s experience: up to 1,320 uses
  • LCA assumption: 150 uses per curette (basis for environmental impact calculations). Scenario analysis explores longer lifespans.

Materials & recycling

  • Instrument tips: Stainless steel, 80% recycled content
  • Handle core: Aluminum alloy, 60% recycled content
  • Handle coating: Silicone, non-recycled content
  • Primary packaging: A_PET plastic, 70% recycled content
  • Total weight: ~0.02 kg
